Editing Writing

How to edit your employees’ writing

Often, managers may be thrust into the position of editing the writing of others without enough training or background. This course will provide an introduction to best practices in editing, including a review of recent changes in the English language. Combined with “Managing your employees’ writing” workshop, this course provides a lively, one-day skill-building in communicating with employees about their writing.

  • Supervisors
  • Technical personnel

This workshop covers:

  • General management and project management skills

  • Brief review of the 14 most common errors employees make
  • How NOT to drive your employees crazy with your editing
Learners should bring a sample document they have recently written (at least one page, five copies).

Comments from people who have attended this class

  • Thank you for showing me how English has changed. I feel less likely to be embarrassed in my own writing, and more confident in suggesting changes in my employees’ documents.
  • Now that I know the latest in the “serial comma” wars, I’ll be able to argue with authority for that serial comma!
  • I always try to know more than my employees, and this course helped me know what battles to fight and what battles to let go.
  • I feel I can now edit much faster!
